FO Friday: The Mustard Granny and a Waldorf doll named Indigo

So, my bestest friend from my youth, whom I've not seen since my daughter was a baby, due to moving away etc is due her first baby really soon! I'm so excited! She is a wonderfully talented artist jeweller, you can view her works here

So here is her gift:

Entirely hand crocheted and stitch by me, this is 400g of mustard coloured pure merino DK yarn and finished off with a white blanket stitch. It is absolutely gorgeous, I really hope she likes it!
Second project this week was a gift for my friend Clare's little girl for her 3rd birthday.

I absolutely love this wee girl! She is fully jointed like your granny's old teddy bear, so her arms and legs have 360o movement. Her hair is made from yarn from Colinette mill and she's stuffed with pure lambs splinter wool. Her clothes are made from new and upcycled fabrics and she wears real leather sandals.
I love making a blog about my handmades, seeing as most of them are gifts, I can revisit them any time I like! :-)

My Mother's Christmas present

Mum has always wanted a patchwork quilt.

I found this out when I was looking on her bookshelf for something to borrow and came across a quilting book. She said that she would never be able to make one now, but would have loved to.

A little while later, whilst talking to my dear friend Clare, she revealed that she had made her mum a quilt for her birthday. That got me inspired to do mums.

It's the disappearing 9 patch pattern, made from Moda charm packs. It is a quilt-as-you-go design, which means that I made 30 individual complete quilt blocks which I then sashed together before binding.

I would say it was a labour of love, but I don't think that's quite accurate! I hated it to start with, but the more I quilted, the more I fell in love with it and I was quite emotional once I'd finished.

Now mum has her quilt. She spent years going to antique quilt auctions and coming away empty handed. She says she loves this and couldn't have chosen better colours or pattern, but it's even better because I made it too!

Just added a new page - Artwork

Please check out my 'Pages' across the top - I'll be adding galleries of my handmade stuff to pages in due course.

Here's the first one - ARTWORK

:-)

This week I have mostly been . . .

Well, this weeks crafting has mostly been the beautiful Granny Squares. I love these little motifs, so simple yet so satisfying.

I have made 37 of them so far this week. They will be made into a beautiful baby blanket for a very dear friend of mine who is expecting her first baby very soon! Very exciting times. For fantastic crochet tutes, why not head over to Attic 24 where you'll find step by step guides and beautiful photowork of Lucy's peices.

Talking of expecting babies, I visited my sister this week, the first time in a very long time! I miss her dearly, and I had this cake made for her

I know so many very talented people! How lucky am I?! :-)
